Portals - Must have One or Many! Web designing companies not only do they design customer's websites, but also design their own websites which they call it as portals primarily created to earn profit from advertisements or through brand awareness. Popular portals for web designing companies includes business and travel guides and directories, message forums, online dating or match making sites, greeting cards sites, chat sites, jobs site and just about any site which the designing company thinks will appeal to the most visitors or sometimes it may be created as a result of attempting to replicate competitors' work. Ok, stop reading for now, and just recall all those only the teen's entertainment sites you saw for Nepal. Aren't they good and many?

Portals, to some web designing companies mean fashion and proud-ness, and often their portals get more importance than the sum of websites of their customers and this is reflected on their official work portfolio. Some newly ventured web design company's are so carried away that they are failing to provide the much needed customer satisfaction for their web clients only because their whole design concentration is driven to create sites for themselves to match the sites of their competitors, while others are balancing their works with success. New web designing company's first page saying, I am bla bla design and here are ten of my (under-construction typo) portals coming soon won't sell anything. Description of a portal you created is never a big thing for a customer looking for your special values in customer care! The reality of most Nepali portals is bitter, as only a few have earnings while the rest is only a show. A very angry frustrated customer could have been yours but your site could not sell your web design products, except the fact you were self interested.... Me. Me. Me. Does your portfolio speak more on the works you do for yourself or for customers? Think twice if you wish to win so much of the heavy web design competition there is right now in Kathmandu and throughout Nepal!

A good competition will drive the developers to work harder and do better but the need to focus in providing equal amount of time and effort in enriching customer's websites is ever growing. Many experienced web designers have a similar message for the new comers in the field: Focus where you might make money not where most are at! Portals do not make money, if you must have portals, balance your work, try spending more time with your customer's websites, enhance your services, expand your business, increase your work portfolio but not the portals!

Inappropriate Web Advertisements or in a wrong site? So what kind of advertisements should be allowed in Nepali websites? Did the year 2004 ring a few bells in the Information Technology Department of Nepal on that issue? A foreigner from a developed country asked us a question, she said, " I went to a Nepali website which was mostly for young people and was shocked to see a hard liquor advertisement, and what the heck was Gin advertisement doing on a website for young people and I also saw another site where all sorts of beers and whiskey were flashing on the screen too. Do kids in Nepal drink?" She continued, "If such inappropriate ads were to continue, at least let people know that those sites are for young adults." And we could not agree more but what she does not know is that with hundreds of issues from poverty to child abuse to human rights issues, who has time for issues on web advertisements in Nepal? We all are waiting for Government to act, or we could start acting today before our inappropriate advertisements decays more of the seeds of Nepali future - the youth!
