Home - Travel Information - Nepal FAQ What is Nepal's Insurgency or Maoist Conflict?
In 1995, in response to government corruption, a People's war was declared by the Communist Party of Nepal. The war between the
Nepali Government and the Maoists continues claiming countless lives of innocent Nepali people who could be from either side,
Government or Maoist or Innocent Bystanders. The saddest part of this war is the abduction of innocent children and ordinary Nepalese
and their killings and disruption of day to day life. To the ordinary Nepali people and to the world at large, the war is between the
`Royal Nepalese Army', which is the Nepal's national security force and the Maoist Rebels. But in any war the
innocent kids, the fragile youth seeing the world with new eyes and minds struggling to stand on one's own feet, and the poor-and helpless
Nepali parents trying to survive with only what support they get from family, who too get killed in the conflict without a reason. More than 15,000 (Fifteen thousand) Nepalese have been killed
since the conflict began. There is no national official registry of the victims. 200 people died alone in November 2004!
