Prostitution is illegal in Nepal. But ambiguous Nepalese law and Civil Act makes sex legal as well illegal. The Nepalese law says that a women is free to sell her body for sex at a cost, but not free to operate a business such as opening a brothel. Some evidence support that sex workers operate in restaurants, hotels and lodges. Specifically dance and cabin restaurants are popular for facilitating access to sex.
Nepal has child and female trafficking problems. Many innocent kids and girls from rural villages are sold to brothels in India and other nearby countries by criminals who lure with promises for jobs in cities.
