Home - Travel Information - Nepal FAQ What are like Buses, Taxis, Vehicle, and Motor Bikes in Nepal? Buses: Buses in Nepal are crowded specially during holiday seasons. New regulations have made traveling by bus much easier and comfortable. One can take so called Micro Bus (Toyota Hiace) in the Kathmandu valley, Bhaktapur, Patan and also to other remote areas. Other popular scheduled and well maintained buses like Makalu Yatayat, Agni Bus, run to and from Kathmandu to all major cities in Nepal. The main bus terminal is located at Gongabu bus terminal. Vehicles are poorly maintained, most are as old as 25 years. Vehicle inspections done by the Nepal Traffic Police, is corrupt and irregular. There are not enough check-points in highways. Inexperienced drivers, consumption of alcohol, overloading of vehicle and unregulated traffics are main causes of traffic fatalities in highways. Taxis: Meter Taxis are usually recognized by the taxi sign and a black number plate in front and rear. Night cabs are also available at all major hotels. The night taxi fare is slightly higher than the day time fare. You can also get a private car through a travel agent or car/rent agents. All hotels can also provide you this service. Motor Bikes:Motor bikes are available for hire in Kathmandu's Thamel and Lazimpat area. These motorcycles are generally 90-250cc bikes; the most popular motor bike in Nepal is Hero Honda Splendor. Indian and Chinese motor bikes hold a major market share in Nepal. These days Chinese motor bikes have taken over the the market for its attractive price and stylish looks.
