Targets are Set, Now, Move !
Million Tourists
Bring One million (1,000,000) tourists to Nepal in the year 2011 and continue to increase the rate from there on.
More Destinations
Increase Tourism destinations by half the percentage from current destinations. Travel companies like to focus on what is easy to make money such as the golden triangle; Kathmandu -> Pokhara -> Chitwan ->Kathmandu. Government steps in. 2011 sets the target to increase more destinations; this would only mean, more destinations up in the hills and villages, an increase of 50% destinations.
Upgrade Tourism Infrastructure
Investment in tourism infrastructures. Details of which remain vague at the moment, such as money, location, transparency, and accountability. If more money is required, where will they go and how would public see that the either their money or donated money is being used effectively ?
Setup Intranet System
Setup a system to monitor and measure tourism activities through out the country. This doesn’t look like a target to those who read the line or are from a developed country. Nepal has yet to be linked. Not all Government bodies are connected. Often communications are in the form of letters or phones. Perhaps Intranet or such similar Private Network between the Government and Organizations help communicate and share critical information faster. A lack of communication will be a disaster in planning, forget about getting any where near the target. This new tool will surely help them, but it might also go further in answering to questions which would be critical to planning a head. Actions to Target should never be fixed unless the actions are doing great. What if they aren’t ? Would the answer to finding questions like which country actually gives us less tourists but gives the country more money or which country stays longer in Nepal but actually doesn’t give much money at all or can we actually count the tourists that come to our land by road so we can get accurate number of arrivals ?
What kind of system will we see ? For now, Nepalese are happy that the word “System” is in the line of target.
